David Deratzian
David Deratzian is a graduate of State University of New York at Potsdam. David began his music studies on the guitar at the age of 6, inspired by his mother and uncles who were gifted multi-instrumentalists. David expanded his studies to piano and organ at age 12, and bass at fourteen. Since then, David has added other stringed instruments, including cello. David has studied with renowned jazz and classical bassist Paul Kleinfelter and internationally acclaimed classical bassist Lauren Pierce. David works primarily in musical theatre as a Stage and Musical Director, and playing bass, guitar, mandolin, banjo, tuba and keyboard in theatre pit orchestras. David was the Principal Bass for the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra until 2023. David teaches ‘Cello and String Bass.
David's teaching philosophy is to inspire students to enjoy an appreciation of music and excellence in playing, and encourages students to explore their own interests while building technique and understanding of theory. David also will assist high school students interested in pursuing music at the university or college level by preparing them for auditions. He enjoys working with students of all ages.
